Detox the Liver With Lemon Juice

The liver works hard purifying the bloodstream by removing items such as alcohol, pollutants and chemicals. The liver is also one of the primary organs involved in weight loss because it metabolizes fat. A toxin-filled liver has a harder time metabolizing fat. Lemon juice offers a natural method to detox this hard-working organ.

Consult with a physician before starting any form of detox program. Once you have the go-ahead, try the following recipes for a natural liver detoxification. Add this to my Recipe Box.

How It Works

One way to purge the liver of stored toxins is by consuming acidic foods. The liver works to metabolize fat, and when it's filled with toxins this ability is limited. Eating sour foods causes the liver to naturally release the toxins that accumulate over time.

Recipe For Detox

Mornings, the period after fasting, are when the body is primed for cleansing. It's the optimum time to consume detoxing liquids. Squeeze the juice of a fresh lemon into a cup of hot water. Drink it first thing in the morning.

Throughout the day, add lemon juice to your water. Try to drink at least 64 ounces of lemon-infused water daily. Sipping lemon water at meals also helps with digestion by increasing acidity.

Other Benefits

Although an overall healthy diet, including plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, is crucial to maintaining healthy organs, a lemon juice detox can aid in the liver's ability to function properly. Plus, you'll be getting plenty of vitamin C, which as an anti-oxidant, helps to eliminate the free radicals released by the liver's purifying process.
