How to Detox the Liver at Home

Your liver regulates hormones and filters toxins from your blood. Having a poor diet filled with saturated fats can give your liver too much work, causing a buildup of toxins. If there are too many toxins, the liver will not function at its best. But the liver is capable of regeneration, provided it has the proper conditions. By using the natural methods in this guide, you can detoxify your liver even at home.

Instructions

    1

Drink eight glasses of water daily. Drinking enough water helps your liver flush out harmful toxins.

    2

Eat foods rich in fiber. When toxins enter your body, your liver transports them directly to your digestive tract. When there is a sufficient amount of fiber in the digestive tract, fiber binds to the toxins with food and is eliminated with your next bowel movement. When you lack fiber, the toxins get reabsorbed into your blood and your liver has to process them again, becoming overworked. Foods rich in fiber include whole grains, raspberries, barley and fava beans.

    3

Drink one glass of unconcentrated cranberry juice every day. Cranberries contain a potent active ingredient called tannin that helps your liver clear cholesterol out of your blood. Cranberry juice also aids your kidneys in eliminating bacteria and toxins.

    4

Take ascorbic acid (vitamin C) tablets. Ascorbic acid helps your liver make a substance called glutathione, which helps your liver remove harmful toxins. Take one 500 mg tablet once daily, preferably with food.

    5

Perform yoga exercises twice a day. Yoga helps your muscles relax and can help stimulate your liver to flush out harmful toxins. See the resources below for a video on yoga poses for your internal organs.
